What Are Calories Anyway ?
Calories, necessary but not too much!
Calories are the units for measurement of energy which the body uses to do its functions. Without them we wouldn’t be able to think, bread, sleep and have regular physical activities. Organs like the brain, the liver, the heart or even kidneys take about 60 to 70% of the calories our body spends. However when consumed in excess calories are not beneficial to our health and can lead to serious weight disturbances.
How do they work?
When we eat, our body decomposes the food in molecules releasing their energy, providing it the means to perform its basic functions. If we eat too many calories our body keeps them so they can be used for future needs of energy, but if those future needs do not exist (sometimes for lack of exercise) the calories will be transformed in fat and the scale will surely reflect that!
Too much or too less?
The excess of calories is equally prejudicial to your health as the deficit of these providers of energy. Diseases can emerge from wrong amounts of consumed calories.
The World Health Organization recommends that women take between 1500 and 200kcal daily, as for a man between 2100 and 2600kcal are enough. These are rough figures that one should always combine with age, height and physical ability.
